A: Deal Breakers? Poor grammar, little to no editing, badly disguised porn called erotica, horrible dialogue, over description of everything, but worst is wide open endings. Honestly I like a book to end. It can lead to another book with clues of things to come, but whatever the premise is of that book just needs to be fulfilled in that book.

Thank you!!! I had a conversation with a friend about badly disguised porn as erotica. This really irritates me because there is really some good erotica out there but it's not view positive because of the porn that is being published under that name.

I don't know much about the whole porn/erotica thing, but I mostly agree about the rest. Not sure about *all* books with open endings, because some just feel 'right' to me, but I generally rather dislike the feeling that there are too many things left unresolved.

Cliffhangers can be bad. Especially if the next book is a year away.Good answer.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new GFC follower. You can follow me back here http://www.thedemonlibrarian.com/2012/11/feature-follow-friday-november-2nd-2012.html
I haven't read much erotica to have encountered that problem, but I am sure that would be annoying.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind open endings at all. I like screwed up, terrible endings sometimes, though. haha.
Thanks for stopping by and following! Following you back via GFC.

Totally agree, especially with the porn/erotica thing. I don't read either. Old follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D
ReplyDeleteI would have figured you'd have said fantasy stories that don't follow their own rules. I know how you are about that. LOL
ReplyDeleteBad sex in a book is just a no no for me. New follower : )

Oh I agree with your answer so much! I get so mad when books don't end! Or when a book was entirely build up for the sequel. So yeah, great answer. Following you back.
ReplyDeleteI hate open endings! I don't mind a cliffhanger in a series.. but to end a one off book with more questions or even the last in a series. UGH.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower via GFC. Would love for you to stop by my blog and check it out. :)

Bad editing is definitely a deal breaker. I've run across books that everyone is raving about and yet I can't get past the first chapter because the editing is so bad.
